Are Stem Cells The Cure For Aging?
Aging is not something that is valued. We see the unwanted ugly side of aging and want to turn our backs on it, as if we can avoid it if we don’t see it. Our skin sags a little more, our eye sight weakens, our body is not as strong as it used to be. Our skin may sag a little more but the babies that body took care of did its job, the eyes may be a little weaker, but the beautiful stories they have hidden sparkle in the distance, and the body that has carried its soul through life may creak a little more but its’ still doing its job. Aging is not something to fear my friends, but something to embrace gracefully. But what if aging didn’t have to be so painful, so debilitating, or fast. Stem cells may be the answer to prolonging youth and keeping aging on the backburner a little longer. How can a little cell be the key to youth, one of the most treasured, sought after, almost unattainable once your time is up, youth?

What Are Stem Cells?
An undifferentiated cell of a multicellular organism that is capable of giving rise to indefinitely more cells of the same type, and from which certain other kinds of cell arise by differentiation. In other words, stem cells have the potential to develop into many different cell types in the body during early life and growth. In many tissues they serve as a type of internal repair system, dividing essentially without limit to replenish other cells as long as the person is still alive. Why is this so magical? Stem cells offer new potentials for treating diseases, healing injuries, and now delay in aging.
Aging And Stem Cells
Stem cells are becoming more popular for developing anti-aging treatments such as stem cell facials, stem cells in cosmetics, and anti-aging creams. The latest research is using stem cells found in adult bone marrow and the team involved in the research conducted 2 successful trials which showed that the treatment was safe, well tolerated, and showed improvements in physical performance measures and inflammatory biomarkers. Stem cells could be a backup system for us to replace damaged tissue or worn out cells. The use of stem cells in aging is looking to understand how the regenerative capacity of stem cells can be used to promote a healthy life. Once we can figure this out, this could be a huge game changer. Not only will we look and feel younger, but on a cellular level as well.
While using stem cells to delay aging is a great finding, there are other key factors that play an important role in our long-term health. Environmental, genetic, and our lifestyle choices. We can’t eat like crap, smoke, and expect aging to not hit us like a train. We have to make the choice to take care of the body we are given. There are always fad diets that someone is following, but caloric restriction has been shown to delay aging at the genetic level. If we can take all this knowledge and apply healthy practices, our aging process will probably be able to be delayed even more then it would naturally. This shows that even if stem cells aren’t an option yet for you personally, you can still take healthy steps to stay “young” and keep your body healthy. Thankfully aging science is still being explored and has the possibility to help us stay younger and healthier in ways that were not possible before.
